Nuclear at McMaster

McMaster hosts nuclear industry partners on World Cancer Day

McMaster recognized the impact of radiopharmaceutical innovation in cancer care as part of World Cancer Day, alongside our partners at Canadians for CANDU and the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC).

Medical isotopes play a critical role in diagnosing and treating cancer, enabling life-saving therapies and advancing precision medicine for patients worldwide.

McMaster University, CNIC and members of Canadians for CANDU are integral partners in Canada’s nuclear ecosystem – driving research, innovation and manufacturing of life-saving treatments. Together, we advance radiopharmaceutical development to ensure patients worldwide benefit from advanced cancer therapies.

Canadians for CANDU and CNIC have signed a new MOU – an occasion which we celebrated here at Canada’s Nuclear University with our partners in the medical isotope ecosystem.

“At McMaster, we share Canada’s view of nuclear as an integrated national asset. Our work doesn’t sit within a single discipline or faculty — our students, faculty, and researchers contribute across the full spectrum: medical isotopes and health sciences, energy systems and advanced materials, finance, supply chains, nuclear security, regulation, policy, and community engagement,” said Gianni Parise, McMaster’s vice-president, research.

“This broad involvement reflects Canada’s own approach — a collaborative ecosystem where research, industry, medicine, and policy strengthen one another and deliver meaningful global impact. And in that ecosystem, universities play a critical role. This is a moment when industry, government, and academia must work together more closely than ever to ensure Canada’s sovereignty, security, and capacity for nation building.”

“That’s why we’re so pleased to host you today as Canadians for CANDU and the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council sign an MOU that further aligns and strengthens this national system. It represents further momentum, and we’re honoured that it’s happening here at McMaster – Canada’s Nuclear University.”
